A Cardinals staff member and two players have received positive tests in the past two days.
“Out of an abundance of caution, and to ensure that all infected Cardinal players and staff members have been identified, the games between the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 8 and Sunday, Aug. 9 have been postponed,” MLB said in a statement.
Postive COVID-19 tests have stunted the Cardinals’ season thus far, as St. Louis has played only five games — and none since July 29. Other MLB teams have played as many as 14 games.
St. Louis has had 16 total positive tests now — nine players, seven staffers — as reported by The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.
On July 30, MLB and its players’ union agreed to institute seven-inning doubleheaders to assist teams that need to make up lost games.
